Shelly Goldstein is a writer-performer who works extensively in both the U.S. and the U.K., with credits spanning TV, film, and stage. She is currently one of four writers on Sherlock & Daughter, an international co-production starring David Thewlis. The series debuted in April 2025 and quickly became the #1 show on The CW, a Top 5 hit on HBO/MAX, and the #1 drama on SBS in Australia. It has been sold to broadcasters across Europe, Asia, and North America and was nominated for Best International Series at the 2025 Monaco Film Festival.
Shelly’s work includes the Emmy-winning PBS musical special Chicago Voices and the original song “England’s White Rose,” featured in Lionsgate’s Cold Courage. She wrote A Starry Night, a gala hosted by Stephen Colbert and featuring Seth Meyers, Heather Headley, and others. She has contributed to sitcoms, dramas, documentaries, and award shows—often writing special material for stars like Colbert, Lily Tomlin, Jay Leno, Barbra Streisand, Hugh Jackman, and even the Royal Family of Monaco.
Known as a go-to writer for events blending humor and gravitas, Shelly has written for the WGA Awards, Producers Guild Awards, the Environmental Media Awards, the Smithsonian’s African American Culture Gala, and tributes for legends such as Hugh Jackman, Julie Andrews, and Robert Redford.
In children’s programming, she created the animated series Shelldon (NBC, 4 seasons) and wrote the theme for Flying with Byrd, penning 52 episodes. Her musical Last Dance workshopped on Broadway, and she directed The Paul & Vic Show across major U.S. cities. She recently directed Magnificent Millicent in London and performed in the West End 50th Anniversary concert of Godspell. Notably, Francis Ford Coppola praised her screenplay The Cuban Missile as “the best script I’ve read in 20 years.”
